Every year I will get questions regarding flu and colds within the hospitality business, while it is the business operators, the chef and all employees involved in service to prevent any harm to their guests, fighting cold and flu in the restaurant requires following (strictly) the guidelines set forth by local health officials. Take extra care to not touch your mouth, eyes, or nose without washing your hands first. Stop smoking, smoking requires a lot of contact with fingers and mouth, contamination by a virus increases greatly with smoking, evidence shows that smokers get the flu more often than people who don’t. Smokers who do get sick, have a propensity to have a more severe infection and are at higher risk of dying from the flu because of weakened lungs.
Sharing is caring, but never when it comes to the flu, if you contact the disease, stay home, until you feel better and your fever has been gone (without the help of medicine) for at least 24 hours. Sneeze into your elbow, not your hand. That way you can’t pass it around. Toss used tissues after you blow your nose. Don’t leave them lying around for someone else to find. Sure everyone needs the money from working, but working while very ill could result in longer recovery time, or develop another complication/disease advancing into something far worse, forcing you to be away from work even longer, not mention the harm you will do to everyone with 20 feet (3 meters) of you. Compassion for others requires that while you are contagious you stay home. Your employer should have a risk management plan that will be activated during flu season, employees on a call in bases for those who get ill, sick leave procedures (that you need to follow) possible funds that you can draw upon to assist you through recovery. Giving is living, maybe not with the flu, if you get it, don’t give it, you could literally threaten another’s life by giving them the virus, that will depend on their personal health conditions. Confusion and fear abound when it comes to cold and flu season. While the flu is atrocious to endure, and certainly deadly to some, while cold’s are just miserable to have to suffer through they will fizzle away after about 10 days, there are ways to not only to survive them but to completely avoid them.
Colds tend to produce runny nose, congestion, sore throat. Influenza is more pronounced in that it infects the lungs, the joints and causes pneumonia, respiratory failure and even death. With the advent of new diseases, such as the latest, Coronavirus (COVID-19) or H1N1, H3N2, Influenza B or even older viruses such as Swine flu, The flu is a viral infection caused by the influenza virus, a respiratory virus. The common cold is also a viral infection caused by the adenovirus or coronavirus and there are many, many subsets with a lot of variability. That’s why it’s said there’s no cure for the common cold [and] there’s no real vaccine. The flu is known to be from influenza viruses and is preventable with vaccination. Yet many people refuse the vaccination based on erroneous information or myths.
The flu season brings many well meaning (some not so well meaning) huckster with phony cures and unreal or false solutions to heal the person suffering through the viruses of flu and cold. One such product some hucksters are pitching is “silver” in many differing forms, Nano Silver, Silver Sol, Colloidal Silver, Silver mixed with Hemp oil, or Citronella oil, Black Pepper oil, Helichrysum Flower oil or many other formulations of silver. While silver can provide relief from some health problems it is a false statement (it is unproven) to declare it a cure or a method of use to avoid the contracting of a flu virus.
It should be fair to acknowledge that silver has shown positive effects in “treatment” not cures, on some bacteria and some viruses as well as injuries, wounds, eye/ear infections, skin care, anti-inflammatory, sinusitis even with bronchitis. However the FDA proposed to ban the use of colloidal silver or silver salts in over-the-counter products. A final rule banning such use was issued on August 17, 1999 and became effective September 16th. The rule applies to any nonprescription colloidal silver or silver salt product claimed to be effective in preventing or treating any disease. “Silver products can still be sold as “dietary supplements” provided that no health claims are made for them.” So fair warning should be given that the use of some silver products “may” provide “some relief” while others are mere “snake oil” sold by unscrupulous vendors.
For those of faith there is a solution that can be found in Psalms 91, a verse of confession, words that must be spoken in faith and believed by every Christian:

7 A thousand shall fall at my side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh me.

10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague (all these viruses are plaques) come nigh thy dwelling.

We can have no greater guarantee of protection than that which we have in Jesus by faith. What brings sickness on viruses’ wings is fear, and confession of that fear coming from our mouths. Fear is “care” and we are admonished not to carry care, in fact we are told to literally throw our care upon the Lord for what care we cannot with stand Christ can carry it. 1 Peter 5:7 – Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
Here are the definitions of care which shows us clearly why we should never carry care regarding anything, especially fear and all it may offer: “suffering of mind : GRIEF, a disquieted state of mixed uncertainty, apprehension, and responsibility, a cause for such anxiety, painstaking or watchful attention, a person or thing that is an object of attention, anxiety, or solicitude.” We learn from Jesus that “care” is one of the primary reson that faith is destroyed and will not produce our desired results.

Yet scripture gives 365 “fear not’s” to speak forth, one for every day of the year, so as we speak in faith we can know we are inoculating ourselves from the works of the devil. Re-write these so they are personal to you then confess them daily, not just in your prayer life, but every time that a worry, fear, care or concern may show it’s ugly head.

Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes: Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grown. They do not labour or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendour was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you – you of little faith? So do not worry, saying “What shall we eat?” or “What shall we drink?” or “What shall we wear?” For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness , and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Matthew 10:19 – But when they arrest you, do not worry about what to say or how to say it. At that time you will be given what to say.
Matthew 10:26 – ‘So do not be afraid of them, for there is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known.’
Matthew 10:28 – Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.
